What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the process of ensuring that technical on-site elements of a webpage are configured to maximise the potential organic visibility in search engines. This includes making sure the website can be crawled easily and has an architecture best fitting to user experience and entity classifications.

The practice of technical SEO itself is concerned with web technology factors that directly impact a search engine’s ability to crawl, render and index a website — which ultimately impacts on a site’s ability to rank for relevant keywords in search engines. Google’s process of ranking a website can be broken down into four stages:

  • Crawl
  • Render
  • Index
  • Rank

Technical SEO concerns itself with ensuring a website can be crawled easily, rendered by search engines, allowing for more accurate indexing. Once this has been achieved, Google can attribute and weight it’s many “ranking factors” to your webpage (and website) to determine a ranking for user queries.

Why partner with a technical SEO agency?

Unfortunately, most websites are not tested to ensure that they are search engine friendly (never mind optimised), by the people that build them. Fundamental mistakes are often made, which might seem small, but over time these mistakes compound and incapacitate a website’s performance in search engines.

Investing in effective technical SEO is making the right technical decisions overtime (whether small or large) which optimise a website and maximise its potential for search engine visibility. These decisions add up overtime add up and lead to significant increase in organic traffic and therefore conversions.

Technical SEO is about applying best practices in a manner that works for your platform, CMS, and business objectives. Whilst there are best practices and standards to maintain in some areas, there is no one size fits all approach.

This is why we partner with brands, rather than be seen as an external vendor so that we can be aware of changes across both the marketing calendar and wider business to identify both opportunities and threats to organic search performance.

Our SEO Consultants can help with any CMS

As SEO consultants, we get to audit and optimise rather a lot of websites; ranging from eCommerce to lead generation, and from news publications to brochure websites. They're all different, but all equally have a lot in common.

No matter what technology you use, we can pretty much guarantee that we are the technical SEO agency to optimise it for search engines, helping you improve organic search performance, leads, and conversions.

Our Technical SEO Services

Our technical SEO agency offers a variety of technical SEO services all intended to improve the organic search visibility of your website.

Technical SEO Consultancy

Our technical SEO specialists can advise how to optimise your website. Whether you need advice on why there are indexability issues or just need a technical expert to help troubleshoot a problem, our team can provide the support you need.

WEBSITE SEO AUDITIING & ANALYSIS

Our agency has years of experience in auditing websites. Our experts will review your site using our 300-point+ technical SEO framework to identify any technical issues which could be holding back your website.

Website Migrations

There are different types of website migrations and without proper planning or the right experts working on a project it could impact your organic search performance. It’s important that your migration or changes are scoped correctly to allow for sufficient risk monitoring and mitigation.

We’ve performed hundreds of SEO migrations over the years, all varying in scope, size, and complexity.

Server Log File Analysis

Server log files are a type of file that records when a search engine crawler has accessed your website. They are a wealth of information in what resources search engine crawlers frequently access and help to identify issues within a website – which could hinder search engine crawling and indexing.

WEBSITE ARCHITECTURE & STRUCTURE REVIEW

The information architecture or taxonomy of a website is crucial to being successful in organic search. A good website structure helps optimise not only for search engines but also the user experience.

At SALT.agency we can help your team optimise your website’s information architecture.

Google Penalty Removal

Penalty removal is not strictly technical SEO, but it does require a technical mindset to help websites identify and remove any manual action given by a search engine. We can also help identify if a website has been hit by an algorithm update and help uncover what is causing it.

As a combined team, we’ve diagnosed and lifted hundreds of Google penalties, ranging from the classic link based penalties, through to pure spam manual actions.

International SEO

Any international website needs to be optimised so that search engines can identify which country or language should be displayed. Optimising any multilingual and multiregional e-commerce website requires careful planning and technical SEO implementation.

We even built our own international Hreflang validation tool (hreflangchecker.com) to assist companies in monitoring and maintaining their Hreflang implementations, and monitoring their international SEO efforts.

Mobile SEO

It’s no secret that mobile is fast becoming the number one device for users to search for in different verticals. Configuring technical on-site elements is important to make sure your mobile site can be found in mobile search results.

Check out our mobile SEO service page for more information on what further services we offer.

Edge SEO

SEO is in a constant state of evolution, and at SALT.agency, we’re constantly pushing ourselves to be ahead of the game. Forever investing in new technology and research, we believe in edge SEO — the collaboration of different technologies to find new ways of finding success in search.

SALT.agency coined the term “edge SEO” at TechSEO Boost 2018, where the research into the area won the inaugural TechSEO Boost Call For Research innovation competition, backed by Moz.

SALT.agency did an exceptional job in removing a Google Manual Action penalty given to one of the larger e-commerce websites belonging to our group. The penalty was removed on the first submission and they carried out this task with a high level of dedication and skill, impressing us with their passion and knowledge. I strongly recommend SALT.agency to carry out any similar briefs.
